Why Sustainable Travel Feels So Good

Your Stay at Lomani Island Resort & Spa: Relaxation Meets Responsibility

What Makes an Eco-Friendly Resort Different

An ecological resort represents a fundamental shift in how hospitality interacts with its environment. Unlike conventional resorts that often prioritise convenience over conservation, eco-friendly resorts like Lomani Island Resort & Spa integrate sustainable practices into their core operations without compromising comfort.

The key differences lie in the approaches to resource management, community engagement, and environmental impact. Ecological resorts typically feature energy-efficient designs, water conservation systems, waste reduction programs, and locally-sourced materials and services. They work in harmony with their surroundings rather than imposing upon them.

How Lomani Island Resort & Spa is Leading the Way in Sustainability

At Lomani Island Resort & Spa, the community we live in and the environment we prosper under are of utmost importance to us. Our mission is to protect the Fijian way of life and preserve the natural beauty of this beautiful country. We have implemented a number of initiatives to do so and have many more in the pipeline.

Sustainable Infrastructure & Operations

Lomani Island Resort & Spa’s commitment to sustainability begins with our infrastructure. Our buildings incorporate natural ventilation, reducing air conditioning needs, while we embrace cleaner energy options by using electric buggies for on-island transport, and a solar-powered water heating system. Speaking of water, our rainwater harvesting systems collect and store rainwater for various uses throughout the resort, while on-island desalination systems provide additional fresh H2O.

We’ve eliminated single-use plastics throughout the resort and implemented comprehensive recycling and composting programs to minimise our waste. Furthermore, we work closely with local, sustainable fisheries, farmers and artisans to source the best local products for our kitchens and gift shops.

Environmental Conservation Initiatives

Beyond our own operations, Lomani Island Resort & Spa actively participates in environmental restoration projects. Our ongoing  reef rehabilitation work with Corals for Conservation involves both staff and interested guests in coral planting initiatives that help restore damaged marine ecosystems.

Regular beach clean-ups ensure our shores remain pristine for marine life, while our support of local marine protected areas helps create sanctuaries for endangered species to recover and thrive.

Community Engagement & Cultural Preservation

Starting 8th April 2025, we’re proud to participate in Tourism Fiji‘s new “Loloma Hour” campaign, which invites guests to donate just one hour of their holiday to meaningful environmental or community contributions.

As part of the campaign, we’re proud to offer a Village Tour experience that allows guests to immerse themselves in traditional Fijian culture while supporting local communities. Though the activity is complimentary, the FJ$10 landing fee goes directly to supporting village expenses, creating a sustainable revenue stream for the community while preserving authentic cultural practices.
